After a long battle in the hospital, the legendary actor Soumitra Chattarjee of Bengali cinema died. He was 86.

He died at 12.15 pm on Sunday (November 15) at Belview Nursing home in Kolkata.

Soumitra Chattarjee was admitted to Belview nursing home in Kolkata on October 6 after being infected with the coronavirus.But the 85-year-old star's condition worsened on the evening of October 12.

Along with Corona, the actor's prostate cancer has been re-transmitted to his lungs and brain. Infection occurs in the urethra. Then the doctors tried to save the actor in various ways, including plasma therapy, breathing apparatus.On September 30, before being admitted to hospital with a coronavirus infection, Soumitra Chattarjee went to Bharat Lakshmi Studio in Taliganj for the shooting of his own biopic. There he felt sick.It is reported that five people interviewed Soumitra after lunch break at Bharat Lakshmi Studio that day. Among them were Sandip Roy, Sabbyasachi Chakraborty and director Atanu Ghosh. The other two are journalists.

Soumitra Chattarjee was born in Mirzapur, Kolkata on 19th January 1935. He studied literature at Amherst Street City College, Kolkata University.In 1959, Oscar-winning director Satyajit Ray, Soumitra stepped into the acting world through 'Apur Sansar'. He then acted in 14 of Satyajit Ray's 34 films. Later he worked with popular directors like Mrinal Sen, Tapan Singh, Ajay Kar. Among the films directed by Soumitra Chattopadhyay are 'Shit Pashan', 'Devya', 'Swarlipi', 'Swarlip', 'Swarlip', 'Swarupt Ain', 'Fire', 'Benarsi', 'Daam', 'Last Watch', 'Charulata, Bukhsho badal, ' Kanch Kata Hire' He acted not only in movies, but also in numerous dramas and TV serials. He wrote plays and poetry without acting.

Soumitra Chattarjee received the 'Padma Bhusan' award in 2004 and 'Dadasaheb Falke' in 2012. In addition, in 2017 he received the Legion of Honor by the French government. In the same year, he received the 'Bangabibhashan' award by the West Bengal government. However, in 2013, he declined the same award.
