Antonio Guterres has been elected UN Secretary-General for a second term.
On Friday (June 18), the UN General Assembly elected him Secretary-General. This was reported by the US media.
Guterres has been unanimously recommended to the General Assembly for a second term by the Security Council, which has elected him Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Antonio Guterres was elected UN Secretary General in 2017 after Ban Ki-moon. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002. He also served as the head of the UN refugee agency from 2005 to 2015.
