According to NDTV, a group of Maoists was stationed in the forest of Mardintola, about 250 km from the Chhattisgarh border. Meanwhile, specially trained C-60 unit personnel were patrolling the area to suppress them. At that time, the Maoists suddenly fired at the soldiers from inside the forest. The casualties were reported when Indian troops returned fire.
