At least 27 people, including a woman and three children, have died in a stampede at a religious event in India. Indian news media NDTV reported that the incident took place in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday (July 2).

According to NDTV, the stampede occurred during a prayer meeting (satsang). Visuals from the community health center showed several bodies being brought there in buses and tempos in the presence of weeping relatives.

State Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered the formation of a committee to investigate the incident.

Chief Medical Officer of Etah in Uttar Pradesh Dr. Umesh Kumar Tripathi said, "We have found 27 bodies, including 25 women and two men." Some of the injured were also taken to hospital. We heard there was a stampede during a "satsang".

Etah Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar said three children were among those killed in a stampede at a village in Hathras' Sikandra Rao police station area.
