Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar commented that what happened in Bangladesh is an internal matter of the country. At the same time, he also said that India wants stable relations with Bangladesh.

Jaishankar said these things in an interview given to Indian media NDTV on Tuesday (September 17).

Jaishankar said, what happened in Bangladesh is their internal matter. Bangladesh is our neighbor and we want to maintain stable relations with them. We have good commercial relations; relations between our people are good. We want to keep the relationship like this.

On August 5, Sheikh Hasina fled to India after being ousted from the post of Prime Minister in the face of massive protests by students. An interim government took over after she left the country. She has been staying there ever since. However, Hasina is trying to seek asylum in the United Kingdom, the United States and the United Arab Emirates. But so far she has not been successful.

Meanwhile, Hasina's continued presence in India poses a challenge for Delhi to build a strong relationship with the interim government.

Last week, the Chief Adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh, Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that his country also wants to maintain good relations with India as before, but those relations should be on the basis of fairness and equality. He also said that he received a congratulatory phone call from Prime Minister Modi after taking over as the head of the government.
