Barrister Rafiqul Haque passes away

Barrister Rafiq-ul Haq, a senior Supreme Court lawyer and former Attorney General breathed his last at a private hospital in the capital (Innah Lillahi Wa Innah Ilaihi Rajiun). He was 85 years old at the time of his death.

He died at 8:30 am on Saturday (October 24). Namaz e Zanaja of Barrister Rafiq-ul-Haq  will be held at the premises of the Supreme Court Bar Association at 2 pm.

Tabibur Rahman Akash, public relations officer of Ad-Din Hospital, said Barrister Rafiq-ul Haq had been suffering from various old age complications. For this reason, he was admitted to Ad-Din Hospital in Moghbazar on October 15. At that time his corona was examined. However, the report was negative. But as his physical condition deteriorated, he was taken to life support. He died this morning.

Barrister Rafiq-ul Haq was born in 1935 in the village Subarnapur in Kolkata. He graduated from Kolkata University in 1955 and obtained his Masters degree in philosophy in 1957.

Rafiq-ul passed LLB in 1958. He completed Bar at Law from the United Kingdom in 1962. He started working as a lawyer in the Supreme Court in 1965 and in the Appellate Division in 1973.

Rafiq-ul-Haq served as the state's chief legal officer from April 7, 1990 to December 17, 1990. Besides Bangladesh, he was a citizen of India, Pakistan and Britain. Four former chief justices have served in the chamber under him. Former minister Barrister Aminul Haque and former speaker Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar also worked with him. Rafiq-ul Haq dealt with many cases without money. He had a special reputation for clear and fluent legal reasoning.
