Prime Minister inaugurates construction of Bangabandhu Railway Bridge

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the construction work by laying the foundation stone of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge at 300 feet upstream of the Jamuna River.

On Sunday (November 29) morning, the Prime Minister inaugurated the construction of the bridge by laying foundation stone through a video conference from the Gono Bhovon.

Railway Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan presided over the function from the western end of the Bangabandhu Bridge. Local MPs, Secretary of Railways, Salim Reza and the Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh were present at the event.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the construction of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge will improve the internal connectivity of the country. There will be economic growth regionally.The Project is being implemented by the Japanese company. The implementation cost of the project is estimated at Tk. 16,780 crore. Of which, GOB will pay Tk. 4,631 crore and JICA will pay Tk. 12.149 crore.The parallel dual guage trucks of the Bangabandhu Bridge will be constructed with a total of 4.80 km of railway bridge and a total of 30 km of railway lines including 0.05 km of viaduct, 7.677 km railway approach embankment loop and siding on both sides. The new station building yard remodelling of the Bangabandhu Bridge East and West.

The Railway Bridge Museum will be built under this project.Construction of the bridge will be completed by August 2024 and train will start running on the new bridge, project sources said.
