Sixteen bridal party people were killed in a lightning strike on the Padma River at Shibganj in Chapainawabganj. At that time 6 more people were injured. However, the names and addresses of the injured and the dead were not immediately available.
The incident took place in Charpanka Union of the upazila around 12 noon on Wednesday (August 4).
The injured were rescued and admitted to Sadar Upazila Health Complex.
Shibganj Upazila Project Implementation Officer Engineer Ariful Islam confirmed the matter. He said they were killed when lightning struck while the boat was proceeding to an wedding ceremony.
He added that Shibganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shakib Al Rabbi and Officer-in-Charge of the police station Mohammad Farid Hossain left for the spot after receiving the news.
