Prime Minister goes to New York on Friday

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is leaving for New York on Friday (today) to attend the UN General Assembly. This will be the first foreign visit of the Prime Minister 19 months after the onset of the Corona pandemic. The Prime Minister will pay a one-day visit to the United Kingdom and arrive in New York on September 19.

The theme of this year's UN General Assembly session is 'Hope'. This theme has been fixed with new expectations to eliminate corona. Once again, the Prime Minister will address the UN General Assembly in Bengali on September 24.

This year's UN General Assembly session will be limited. It will last for two weeks. Starting on September 14, world leaders will start speaking from September 21.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said this at a press conference on Thursday.  He added that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address the UN General Assembly and raise the issue of the Rohingya crisis. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen were present at the press conference.

The Foreign Minister said the high-level debate would begin on September 21 at the UN General Assembly. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address the UN General Assembly on September 24. The Prime Minister will take part in several side events during the session. Much of the session will cover the corona pandemic and subsequent sustainable recovery and reconstruction. Apart from this, the issue of elimination of global 'vaccine inequality' will be specially discussed in this session.

The Foreign Minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend a high-level meeting on climate change on September 20 at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the Secretary-General of the United Nations. During the meeting, the Prime Minister will highlight the various initiatives taken by the Government of Bangladesh to address the challenges of climate change and call for concerted global initiatives to address the risks of climate change. On the same day, the Prime Minister will plant trees at the UN headquarters on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
