Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon world leaders to take strong measures to address the adverse effects of climate change and the global emergency.
She made the call at a closed-door meeting with world leaders on Monday (September 20), New York time, to address the adverse impacts of climate change. At that time Sheikh Hasina submitted 6 proposals.
The meeting was co-hosted by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson and the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres.
In her first proposal, Sheikh Hasina called for strict implementation of the Paris Agreement to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius.
The second proposal also calls for 100 billion in annual climate funding from developed countries. She said 50 per cent of the funds would be used for adaptation and resilience, especially in climate-risk countries.
The third proposal highlights the need for new financial processes and the transfer of green technology to developing countries.
In the fourth resolution, the Prime Minister called for tackling the problem of loss and damage due to climate change as well as displacement of large population.
The fifth proposal called for assistance in building the capacity of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) countries to tackle epidemics and disasters, especially with increasing climate change disasters.
In her last resolution, Sheikh Hasina called upon all to work with a global attitude to leave a sustainable future for the next generation.
Highlighting the adverse effects of climate change, she said climate-risk countries contribute the least to global greenhouse gas emissions, but they suffer the most.
The Prime Minister also mentioned in the recent IPCC report that it paints a grim picture of the future because if the global temperature goes above 1.5 degrees Celsius, they will face permanent losses.
