The case under investigation by the police for recent communal violence over religious defamation in Cumilla has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The organization has already started investigating the case.
Newly appointed DIG of Chittagong Range Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter on Sunday (October 24) night.
He said the original case filed in connection with the violence in Cumilla has been handed over to the CID. He said the CID would investigate the case from now on.
In Cumilla, the police have filed four cases at Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station against the violence creator after the holy Qur’an keeping incident in a Puja Mandap. Enraged people later on ransacked a number of Puja Mandaps, houses and shops of the Hindu community.
Cumilla Superintendent of Police Farooq Ahmed said a total of four cases were registered under the Information and Technology Act and violence against religious sentiments in the October 13 incident. So far 41 people have been arrested in four cases.
