The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has directed all international airports in the country to be on high alert to prevent a new type of coronavirus, Omicron, which has spread to several countries in South Africa and Europe. In addition, the National Technical Advisory Committee has made four recommendations, including banning the movement of passengers in the countries where Omicron has been identified.
These recommendations were made after detailed discussions at the 48th meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee on Sunday (November 28).
Immediately after the announcement, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism directed all international airports in the country to be on high alert. Although African countries do not have direct contact with Bangladesh, those who come to the country with transit from African countries have been instructed to be brought under screening.
State Minister for Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali told reporters, "I have already talked to the chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) about the precautionary measures. Besides, we will implement the instructions given to us by the Ministry of Health and Foreign Affairs.
Everyone who enters Bangladesh with transit from African countries will be brought under screening. My request to the passengers is that they should be careful even if they think of their own family at least. I also request them to follow the instructions of the government in entering Bangladesh. '
This new type of corona was first identified in South Africa last Tuesday. A day later, the World Health Organization named this type 'Omicron'.
