His only rival is independent candidate BNP leader Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker. He is on the race with the ‘elephant’ symbol.

Shortly after the nomination, Taimur was removed from the post of member of the BNP chairperson's advisory council and convener of the Narayanganj district committee. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said that there is no doubt about the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election.

The CEC said people would be able to exercise their voting right in a free, fair and peaceful environment. The Election Commission has completed all the preparations for holding a fair vote.

NCC election is being held today on January 16, 2022. In 27 general wards and 9 reserved wards, more than one candidate have been contesting with different symbols. There are a total of 5 lakh 17 thousand 357 voters at 187 polling stations. Of these, 2 lakh 59 thousand 834 are male voters while 2 lakh 57 thousand 519 are female voters. Besides, there are 4 third gender voters. The voting will be held in Narayanganj in EVM.
