Seven Bangladeshis have died in a boat in the Mediterranean due to low body temperature on their way from Libya to Italy. Prosecutor Luigi Patronazzio of the Italian city of Agrigento made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
He said Coastguard members watched the boat float all night near Lampedusa, about 29 kilometers off the coast of the uninhabited island of Lampion. Then they started the rescue operation. He also said that an investigation will be started against the culprits in this incident.
Lampedusa Mayor Salvatore Martello confirmed the deaths of seven people, saying there were 270 migrants on board. Most of them are citizens of Bangladesh and Egypt.
