The Embassy’s celebration of the 73rd and 92ndbirth anniversaries of Sheikh Kamal and Bangamata

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Manama, Bahrain celebrated the 92nd birth anniversary of Bangamata Begum FazilatunNesa Mujib, the courageous and persevering spouse of our Father of the Nation, at the Chancery building today at 4:00 pm local time with due fervour, dignity, and solemnity. The event commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran followed by reading out messages from the Hon’ble President and the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the eldest daughter of Bangamata, on the occasion. The event then featured the screening of a 6-minute video documentary highlighting the life, struggles, contributions, and accomplishments of Bangamata, whose support as well as utmost and unselfish dedication to her husband’s dream of building a “Sonar Bangla” (Golden Bengal) despite all the hardships that she and her family had to endure led to her recognition as a fearless companion of Bangabandhu in crisis and struggle.

In his statement, the Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. of the Embassy, Mr. A.K.M. Mohiuddin Kayes, paid deep tribute to the great Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and recalled how all the sacrifice, dedication, and support he received fromhis loving wife in addition to being a true companion to him and being a source of his strength, courage, and inspiration that ultimately aided him in freeing the nation from its iron shackles will forever be remembered by the people of this proud nation. Mr. Kayes also recounted Bangamata’s steadfast leadership of the nation during her husband’s wrongful imprisonment and in spite of all the obstacles that stood in her way and the opposition she had to face at the time. He ended his speech by stating that she will always be a symbol of great courage and sacrifice along with being the “inspiration of indomitable Bangladesh” to all Bangladeshis until the end of time.

Moreover, the Embassy also celebrated the 73rd birth anniversary of the freedom fighter Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal as well at the Chancery building on 05 August 2022 and in a befitting manner with due dignity.As always, the event commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran followed by reading out messages from the Hon’ble President and the Hon’ble Prime Minister on the occasion.The event then featured the screening of a 5-minute video documentary highlighting the life, contributions, and major accomplishments of Bangabandhu’s eldest son, a valiant freedom fighter and a role model for the youth for his contributions to the advancement of Bangladesh’s sports and culture.

The CDA, a.i. spoke about Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal with profound respect, particularly how he will always be a role model for the youth of Bangladesh by talking about his lifeand how his down-to-earth lifestyle, ideals, intellect, honesty, feelings of intense patriotism, and democratic values mirrored his father’s perfectly. Mr. Kayes also spoke about the valiant freedom fighter’s role in the great Liberation War in addition to drawing attention to Sheikh Kamal’s love for not only playing sports like football, cricket, and hockey, but also promoting them to the youth of a post-independence nation.Mr. Kayes further added that he was also an avid fan of playing the Sitar, singing, taking part in plays, and participating in extempore speech competitions as well.

Both events came to a conclusion with a special prayer for the salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu, Bangamata, their eldest son Captain Sheikh Kamal, and 14 other members of the Mujib family who were brutally assassinated at the pre-dawn hours of 15 August 1975 in a coup led by disgruntled army personnel and other co-conspirators.
