Senior physician of Kishoreganj who directly contributed to the anti-British movement, language movement and the great liberation war of 1971 Dr. AA Mazharul Haque (98) passed away( Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raziun.)

He breathed his last at his residence in Cantonment residential area of the capital on Thursday (September 21) around 5:30 pm.

He was suffering from old age complications for a long time. He is survived by two sons, five daughters, relatives and numerous well-wishers.

Since studying at Dhaka Medical College, he actively participated in the mother language movement. He also participated in the construction of the first brick Shaheed Minar built in memory of the martyrs at the initiative of the students of Dhaka Medical College.

During his student days, he was heavily involved in the British oust movement to prevent communal riots in 1946-47. He directly participated in language movement with brief imprisonment.

In 1971, he was the first to inform and promote the declaration of independence to Kishoreganj residents. Under his leadership, the first flag of independence was hoisted at his own residence.

He directly and actively contributed to almost every victory struggle of the motherland, especially the anti-British movement, the language movement and the great freedom struggle of 1971.

Kishoreganj district city Gaurangabazar resident Dr. AA Mazharul Haque not only participated in the liberation war but also engaged in the service of people. For 69 years, he has continuously provided medical services to the poor and helpless people of Kishoreganj. Also, as a social worker, politician, he has always played a role in the welfare of the people. Dr. A.A. Mazharul Haque, deceased, has done various philanthropic and social service work through Mazhar-Noor Foundation, a socio-cultural-literary research institute of Kishoreganj established by Mazharul Haque and philanthropist Noorjahan Begum.

Besides, he was actively associated with the establishment of religious institutions including various mosques and madrasas.

Leaders of various political and social organizations have expressed deep grief over the death of Dr. AA Mazharul Haque.

Dr. A. A. Mazharul Haque's eldest son is a professor of Political Science Department of Chattogram University. He is also Associate Editor of Barta24.com. Mahfuz Parvez and daughter Kishoreganj District Jubo Mahila League President Shayla Parveen Sathi have asked for prayers from everyone for the repose of their father's soul.
