"Distorting history is a congenital problem of a class people. They are harming the country. Whatever they do for the development of the country, they don't like anything.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said these things at a discussion meeting organized by Dhaka District Awami League in Tejgaon on the occasion of National Mourning Day on Thursday (February 22).

Pointing out that there was an attempt to erase Bangabandhu from the language movement history, the Prime Minister said, Awami League and Bangabandhu struggled to establish the rights of Bengalis. We have achieved liberation through this struggle. Not only that, Bangabandhu's contribution was erased from the history of independence. "Somewhere a Major stood on a drum and announced Bangladesh became independent, we are also being told the distorted history".

Commenting on the contribution of Awami League to celebrate February 21 as 'International Mother Language Day', the head of government said that Bangabandhu had to go to jail repeatedly for speaking about the people of the country. Awami League has declared February 21 as 'National Mourning Day', granted a holiday and budgeted for the construction of Shaheed Minar.

Recalling the contribution of Bangabandhu in the language movement, Sheikh Hasina said that Bangabandhu laid all the foundations of state management. He proceeded step-by-step with the plan, exactly as it was necessary to proceed to give economic emancipation to a nation. He inspired people with the spirit of freedom.

The Prime Minister also said that there is evidence of Bangabandhu's contribution to the language movement in Pakistani intelligence reports.
