Rebellion, love and national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's birthday today. On the occasion of the day, extensive programs have been taken up at the national level.

He was born in Churulia village of Jamuria police station of Asansol subdivsion of Burdwan district on 11 Jaistha of Bangla year 1306. His nickname was 'Dukhu Mia'. Father's name is Kazi Fakir Ahmed and mother's name is Zaheda Khatun.

Although Kazi Nazrul Islam was originally a rebel poet, but his love form is also proverbial. This poet of eternal love took love, wanted love.

The non-sectarian spirit was another notable sub-genre of his literature. And so the national poet's birth anniversary is being celebrated with the theme of 'non-communal spirit and Nazrul'. President Md Shahabuddin on the occasion of the day and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages.

President Md. Sahabuddin said in his speech, Nazrul's poetry and songs provided inspiration in every movement and struggle of Bengali, including the anti-British movement, the mass uprising of the 1970s and the great liberation war.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, 'Poet Nazrul has inspired and stimulated the people of Bangladesh in the liberation struggle through his convincing and strong writings. The diverse creativity of Nazrul literature is still relevant in our national life.

Begum Matia Chowdhury, Deputy Leader of Jatiya Sangsad, will be present as the chief guest on the opening day of the three-day event (May 25 to 27) organized by the Ministry of Culture. The program will be inaugurated at Shahbagh National Museum in the capital on Saturday at 4 pm. Apart from this, under the leadership of Nahid Izhar Khan, State Minister of the Ministry of Culture, wreaths will be placed at the Poet’s tomb at Dhaka University campus at 6:30 am today.

Apart from this, the 125th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be celebrated in various places including Mymensingh and Cumilla's Daulatpur, where the memory of the national poet is interwoven, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and under the management of the local administration. On this occasion, the local administration has taken various programs including discussions and cultural events.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, private radio and television channels will broadcast the national level opening ceremony along with live broadcast. On the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, Awami League will pay homage at Poet's tomb in the central mosque premises of Dhaka University at 7:30 am.

On Saturday (May 25) at 8 am, Bangla Academy will pay respects at the National Poet’s tomb adjacent to Dhaka University Central Mosque. Apart from this, tributes will also be paid to the Nazrul portrait installed at the Nazrul Manch of Bangla Academy.

Dhaka University authorities have undertaken various programs to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam with due dignity. Programs include wreath-laying at Poet's shrine, discussions and musical performances.

Although known as a rebel poet in Bengali literature, Kazi Nazrul was a poet, musician, novelist, storyteller, playwright, essayist, journalist, filmmaker, singer and actor. He has held the seat of dignity in the world of Bengali music by creating various ragas and raginis. His poems, songs and literary works created a renaissance in Bengali literature. He was a pioneer writer of secular consciousness. His writings played a great role in the development of non-communal consciousness in the national life. His poems and songs have been showing people the way to freedom from exploitation and deprivation for ages.

His songs and poems were a source of inspiration in the liberation war of Bangladesh. Soon after the independence of Bangladesh, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman brought rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam with his family to the newly independent Bangladesh. He arranged his residence in Bangladesh with state status. He also gave a house for the poet in Dhanmondi of the capital.
