The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has ordered the closure of all types of shipping including launches in the coastal areas due to the deep low pressure created in the Bay of Bengal.

The matter was informed by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) on Saturday (May 25) afternoon.

BIWTA says the deep depression over the ocean has the potential to develop into a cyclone. Due to which sea ports have been asked to show warning signal number 3. For this reason, instructions have been given to stop all types of launches and boat movement in the coastal area.

Director of Naval Security and Traffic Management Department Zainal Abedin said, the deep depression created in the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a cyclone. That is why we have taken all measures. Seaports have been asked to display warning signal number 3. All types of launching and boating are prohibited in the coastal area. However, no such instructions have been issued for launches operating in river ports. It is a matter of time. Action will be taken according to the situation.

At the same time, he also said that the leave of all levels of BIWTA officials has been cancelled.

A control room has been set up on the 6th floor of the building of the Bangladesh Inland Navigation Authority, focusing on the possibility of a deep low pressure and a possible cyclone. The officers and employees of the organization will be present in the control room and maintain uninterrupted communication with the meteorological office, the control room established in all the river ports of the authority, the focal point officer of the port, the control officer of various departments of the river port and the control officer of dredger bays.
