MP Anar murder: admitting responsibility Babu gave a confessional statement

Awami League leader Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu has given a statement admitting his involvement in the murder of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Anwarul Azim Anar. He has given the statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the case of abduction with intent to murder Anar.

On Friday (June 14), as the accused Babu voluntarily agreed to give a confessional statement, the investigating officer, Assistant Commissioner of Detective Police (DB) Mahfuzur Rahman requested to record it. Following the application, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim's court recorded his statement. Then the court ordered to send him to jail.

Sub-Inspector of Police Jalal Uddin, officer of General Registration Branch of Sher –e-Bangla Nagar police station, confirmed the matter to the media in the court.

Earlier, Shimul Bhuiyan alias Shihab alias Amanullah Saeed, Tanveer Bhuiyan and Shilasti Rahman gave statements in the court admitting their involvement in the murder of Anar. They are now in jail.

On the night of June 6, a DB team arrested District Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu alias Gas Babu from Adarshapara area of Jhenaidah town.

Later, on June 9, Babu was brought to the court and applied for a 10-day remand for proper investigation of the case. After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan's court granted his seven-day remand.

It may be noted that Anwarul Azim went to Kolkata for treatment on May 12. On May 18, his acquaintance Gopal Biswas filed a diary with the police in Kolkata. It is said that Anwarul left the house on May 13. Then he did not return. He called and informed that he was going to Delhi on a special work. On May 15, he sent a message saying that he is in Delhi. There is no trace of him since the 17th.

On Wednesday, Gopal Biswas was quoted by some media as saying that he was informed by the police that the police recovered the body of Anwarul Azim from a flat in Kolkata.
