One person was killed and six were injured in an hour-long gun battle between two groups of tribal regional groups indulging in dominance in Baghaihat of Baghaichhari in Rangamati.
Local sources confirmed that at least 7 people were shot in the incident which started in the afternoon of Tuesday (June 18). The name of the deceased helper is Naeem. His house is Fatickchari Nazirhat. He was taken to Dighinala Upazila Health Complex in a coma and died in the afternoon while undergoing treatment. Deceased Naeem is a bus helper by profession.
Confirming the truth of the gunfight, the Nirbahi Officer of Baghaichhari Upazila, Shirin Akhter, said that immediately after the incident, members of the law and order forces went to the spot and brought the situation under control. He gave this information while talking to the reporter at five o'clock in the afternoon.
According to local sources, since Tuesday morning, two armed terrorist groups, the anti-mountain agreement organization United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) and the reformist JSS, faced off in Baghaihat market. Shortly afternoon, both sides engaged in a gun battle. As a result, the local Bengali and hill dwellers left their shops and houses and took shelter at the foot of the hill.
Meanwhile, United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) Rangamati unit organizer Sachal Chakma has strongly condemned and protested the killing of a peace transport helper and injured several others in the firing by hill terrorists in Baghaihat on Tuesday afternoon and demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the killers.
