Teesta boat capsize: 7 missing, body of a child recovered

A boat capsized with 26 passengers in Teesta River in Sadua Damarhat area of Ulipur, Kurigram. 18 people were rescued alive but 7 people were missing. Only a child's body was found.

The accident happened on Wednesday (June 19) night. The missing persons were not immediately identified.

Locals said that 18 people have been rescued alive so far in the boat sinking incident. But 8 people are missing.

Kurigram Superintendent of Police Al Asad Mahfuzul Islam said that the boat sank with 26 passengers. 18 people were rescued alive. Only a child's body was found. 7 people are still missing.

Ulipur Fire Service station in-charge Abbas confirmed the matter and said, 'We are at the spot. One child's body has been recovered so far. Our rescue operation is ongoing.

Ulipur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Golam Mortuza said, "We are at the spot." It is not possible to say exactly how many people are missing. But locals said 5 to 8 people may be missing.

UP Chairman of Bajra Union Parishad Abdul Qayyum Sardar said, "The incident of boat sinking happened around 7 pm. As far as I heard they were going to have a feast by boat. However, I do not know how many people are missing.
