The Finance Minister made this comment in the speech as the Chief Guest at the seminar titled 'Economy of Bangladesh in Global Context: National Budget 2024-25 on Growth, Inflation, Food and Nutrition Security' organized by Bangladesh Agricultural Economists Association at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Auditorium at Farm gate in the capital on Thursday (June 20).
Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali said, immediately after the announcement of the budget, the opposition said, gone, gone! This government will not last! Where, the government does not read! The country is not bankrupt! The World Bank does not understand anything! You understand everything!
The Finance Minister said that after the budget announcement, the World Bank said that Bangladesh is doing well. We have to listen to what the World Bank has to say because they give us money. We need money.
Referring to the proposed budget as 'people-friendly', Finance Minister Abul Hasan said that it is a proposed budget. This budget is 'people-friendly'! If there is an opportunity to reconsider something, it will be reconsidered. The budget has not been passed yet.
State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu was present as a special guest in the seminar. Bangladesh representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization Xiaokun Xi was present as the guest of honor.
The seminar was presided over by Sajjadul Hasan, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism. The key-note paper was presented by the Professor of Agricultural Research and Marketing Department of Bangladesh Agricultural University Mohammad Jahangir Alam.
