Dhaka-New Delhi agree on joint vision on sustainable future: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that all the issues related to the relations of the two neighboring countries, including water sharing, security and trade have been discussed in a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She also said that they have agreed on a joint vision to ensure a sustainable future for the interests of both countries.

Sheikh Hasina said, both countries have endorsed the Vision Declaration to guide us towards a peaceful and prosperous future. We have agreed to work towards two integrated visions of Digital Partnership and Green Partnership for a sustainable future.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh said these things in a joint statement to the media after signing various agreements including private and bilateral meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Saturday (June 22).

Stating that India is Bangladesh's biggest neighbor, trusted friend and regional partner, Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh has always attached special importance to the relationship established with India through our great liberation war in 1971.

She also said that Bangladesh-India relations are continuously developing and progressing rapidly. Sheikh Hasina said, today we had a very fruitful meeting between the two sides. During the meeting, we discussed politics and security, trade and connectivity, common river water sharing, energy and power and regional and multilateral cooperation, among other issues of mutual interest.

The Prime Minister said, we have agreed to cooperate wholeheartedly for the welfare of our two countries and people. She said that in recent years, the two countries have continued to communicate and cooperate at the highest levels, including the highest levels of state.

Sheikh Hasina said that the President and Prime Minister of India visited Bangladesh in 2021 to attend the celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Prime Minister said she made her last bilateral visit to India in September 2022 and subsequently attended the G-20 Summit held in New Delhi in September 2023 under the chairmanship of India as the leader of South Asia's only invited 'guest country' Bangladesh.

Earlier, Sheikh Hasina visited New Delhi along with several other world leaders to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the newly formed cabinet on June 9.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh said that these are proofs of our two countries working closely with each other.

Sheikh Hasina mentioned that in today's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they discussed the ways and methods of mutual cooperation and engagement between the two countries.

She said, this afternoon she will also meet the President and Vice President of India. Sheikh Hasina said, I believe, these discussions will give us important direction in determining the better way of cooperation with each other.

She said that this is his first bilateral visit to any country after the formation of a new government through the election of the 12th National Parliament in January 2024.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also said, 'I sincerely thank the Government of India for extending warm hospitality to me and my delegation.

Sheikh Hasina gratefully recalled the contribution of the Indian government and people to the independence of Bangladesh.
