BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that sending opposition leaders and activists to jail has now become the main goal of the government.
He said that the government is doing this by denying bail and giving sentences in false cases to the court. Mirza Fakhrul said these things in a statement on Sunday (July 7).
He made this statement expressing deep concern over the denial of bail and detention of Pirojpur District Jubo Dal convener Maruf Hasan.
He demanded the withdrawal of the case against Maruf and his immediate release.
BNP Secretary General said that the Awami ruling group has become more reckless and tyrannical by seizing power through farce elections of January 7 due to lack of public support. In order to hold on to the state power, they have started severe repression against the leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates and affiliated organizations. Maruf Hasan's bail denial and sending him to jail is a continuation of that.
He also said, "The people will never allow the dream of the government to enjoy illegal power for a long time by oppressing the people and opposition leaders and activists."
