The Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) has expressed concern over the mass prosecution of journalists in various murder cases.
This concern was expressed in the meeting of the executive committee of the organization under the chairmanship of Ruhul Amin Ghazi, president of BFUJ and general secretary Quader Gani Chowdhury, at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Thursday (September 12).
Besides opening the closed media, implementation of ninth wage board, speedy trial of killing of all journalists including Sagar-Rooney, taking effective initiatives to stop un-journalism and information terrorism, the organization has made a total of 9 demands.
The demands are-
Immediate opening of the closed media, speedy implementation of the 9th Wage Board Award in media institutions, taking decisions through discussion with BFUJ leaders regarding the appointment of media and journalists to various positions in organizations and institutions, speedy trial for the murder of all journalists including journalist couple Sagar-Rooney, full freedom of media and repeal all anti-media freedom laws, take effective initiatives to stop mis-journalism and information terrorism. Withdraw all false cases against journalists such as Ruhul Amin Ghazi, Mahmudur Rahman, Shafiq Rehman, Mahfuz Anam, Matiur Rahman, Abul Asad, Rozina Islam during the dictatorial government, and provide compensation to the journalists and media affected by the fascist government.
In the meeting President of Dhaka Union Journalists (DUJ)Shahidul Islam, Vice President AKM Mohsin, Khairul Bashar, Treasurer of BFUJ Shahidul Islam, Assistant Secretary General Basir Jamal and Dr. Sadekul Islam Swapan, Executive Committee members Shaheen Hasnat, Modabber Hossain, Aparna Roy, Publicity Secretary Shahjahan Saju, Chattogram Metropolitan Journalist Union President Shahnewaz, Assistant Secretary General Ehteshamul Haque Shawon, BFUJ Office Secretary Abu Bakar spoke.
Rajshahi Journalist Union President Abdul Awal, Khulna Journalist Union President Anisuzzaman, Jashore Journalist Union President Akramuzzaman, Mymensingh Journalist Union Secretary Saiful Islam, Kushtia Journalist Union President and BFUJ Executive Member Abdur Razzak Bachchu, Cumilla Journalist Union General Secretary Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, President of Cox's Bazar Journalist Union GMA Ashekullah, President of Barishal Journalist Union Azad Alauddin, General Secretary of Dinajpur Journalist Union Mahfuzul Islam Ripon, President of Feni Journalist Union Siddique Al Mamun, Vice President of Gazipur Journalist Union HM Delwar Hossain, Munshiganj Journalist Union. President Kazi Biplab Hasan also spoke in the meeting.
