All types of vehicular traffic has been suspended in Rangamati for an indefinite period.
The Rangamati Transport Driver-Owner Association announced this on Friday (September 20) night.
They said, without any provocation, buses, trucks, ambulances, auto-rickshaws and cargo vehicles were vandalized and the drivers were killed and bloodied by rampaging in Rangamati town. Therefore, it has been announced to stop the movement of passenger and goods vehicles in Rangamati for an indefinite period from Saturday (September 21) to demand the compensation of the vehicle, the medical expenses of the injured, and to stop extortion on the Rangapani and Asambasti roads.
They announced this program in an emergency meeting organized at the office of Truck Owners Association in Rangamati on Friday night.
Transport leaders alleged that at least 30 vehicles including buses, trucks, auto-rickshaws, hitchhikers, Noha, ambulances were vandalized in Rangamati town from morning till noon on Friday and two auto-rickshaw drivers were hacked to death, who died at Rangamati hospital.
Transport workers leader Mizanur Rahman Babu said that until the arrest of the terrorists involved in these incidents, the safety of the drivers along with the compensation of the vandalized vehicles, the medical expenses of the injured drivers are not ensured, the movement of passenger and cargo vehicles will be completely stopped in Rangamati.
Chattogram-Rangamati Truck Owners Association General Secretary Abdur Rahim Akash, Rangamati Mini Truck Pickup Owners Association Convener Alok Priya Chowdhury Rintu, Car Micro Driver Workers Union Finance Secretary Didarul Alam, Rangamati District Auto Rickshaw Workers Union General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Babu, Chattogram-Rangamati Motor Coordinator of the owner association Md. Salah uddin and other leaders were present.
