The number of patients and deaths from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease dengue fever is increasing day by day. In the last 24 hours, 3 people have died from the disease across the country. This has increased the death toll this year to 250. In addition, 1,139 more people have been infected with dengue in the last 12 hours. With this, the number of infected people has increased to 50,919.
This information was given in a press release on dengue sent from the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Monday (October 21).
The release said that 1,039 people have been admitted to hospitals across the country due to dengue in the last 24 hours. During this time, 3 more people have died. Three of them are residents of Dhaka North City Corporation.
Out of the 1,039 infected people, 392 are in the two city corporation areas of Dhaka. In addition, 211 people in Dhaka division, 149 in Chattogram division, 77 in Barishal division, 101 in Khulna division, 31 in Mymensingh division, 51 in Rajshahi division, 24 in Rangpur division and 3 in Sylhet division have been admitted to hospitals.
The dengue situation has taken a terrible shape since June 2023. Last year, 321,179 patients were admitted to hospitals in the country and received treatment. On the other hand, 1,705 people died from this mosquito-borne disease. This is the highest death record in the country's history so far.
Earlier, in 2019, 101,354 people were infected with dengue nationwide. At that time, about 300 people, including doctors and health workers, died.
Although dengue infections were not seen much during the Corona pandemic in 2020, 28,429 people were infected from dengue fever across the country in 2021. 105 people died of dengue that year.
In addition, a total of 62,382 people were hospitalized with dengue in 2022. That year, 281 people died from the mosquito-borne disease.
