Cyclone 'Dana' has intensified into a depression

Dhaka: Cyclone 'Dana', which formed in the Bay of Bengal, has now intensified into a depression from a clear low pressure. It is located about 650 km southeast of Khepu-para in Patuakhali district. The wind speed at the center is 55 km per hour.

As per the forecast, the depression is likely to move northwestwards in the next 2 days. The sea surface water temperature at the current depression in the Bay of Bengal is around 30 degrees Celsius, which is creating a favorable environment for the cyclone to increase in strength.

As the depression moves north and northwestwards, the water temperature will also increase further. As a result, the strength of the depression may continuously increase in the next 3 days and it may turn into a deep depression.

According to the current forecast, Cyclone Dana is likely to hit the coastal areas between Puri in Odisha, India, Sagar Island in West Bengal and Noakhali district in Bangladesh. It is likely to make landfall between 12 noon on 24th October and 12 noon on 25th October.

The cyclone is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm while at sea and make landfall. The maximum wind speed at the time of impact is likely to be 110 to 120 kmph, which is likely to increase to 130 kmph with gusts.
