Convenor of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Hasnat Abdullah and central coordinator Sarjis Alam have filed a writ in the High Court seeking an interim order not to allow 11 parties, including Awami League, Jatiya Party (Ershad) and JSD to carry out any political activities.

They filed the writ on Monday (October 28) morning. The writ has been directed to issue instructions to the Law Secretary, Home Secretary, Election Commission and Inspector General of Police in this regard.

The other parties are Bikalpadhara Bangladesh, Tarikat Federation, Communist Party of Bangladesh, LDP, Jatiya Party (Manju), Ganatantri Dal, Marxist-Leninist (Barua) and Socialist Party of Bangladesh.

They have also filed another writ regarding the validity of the 10th, 11th and 12th Jatiya Sangsad elections. The writ may be heard in the High Court tomorrow, Tuesday.

The petition states that a rule has been sought on why all political activities of 11 parties, including the Awami League, should not be banned for indiscriminate killing of people, destroying democratic institutions and unconstitutional seizure of state power through illegal processes.

In addition to banning all political activities of the 11 parties, the petition also seeks a rule on why the parties should not be banned from participating in all elections in the future.

Anti-discrimination student movement leaders Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah posted about filing the writ on their verified Facebook pages.

It is worth noting that after the fall of the government on August 5, a lawyer named Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan filed a writ petition seeking the banning of the Awami League and cancellation of the party's registration. The writ was filed on charges of indiscriminate killing of students and the public during the anti-discrimination movement. However, the High Court bench dismissed the writ outright.
