Former MP from Jhenaidah-2 constituency Tahjib Alam Siddiqui Sumi was arrested by RAB on Thursday (November 7) night from Nabinagar area of Dhaka in a case filed by Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station on charges of murder, vandalism and arson.
The matter was confirmed by RAB's Legal and Media Wing Director Lieutenant Colonel Munim Ferdous.
He said that former MP from Jhenaidah-2 constituency Tahjib Alam Siddiqui Sumi was arrested from Nabinagar area of Savar tonight in a case filed by Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station on charges of murder, vandalism and arson.
Meanwhile, a case was filed on August 27, 11 years after the murder of Jamaat-e-Islami activist Abdus Salam in Jhenaidah. Former MP and District Awami League President Shafiqul Islam, former MP Tahjib Alam Siddiqui and 270 Awami League members have been named as accused in the case.
The deceased's father-in-law and former Krishi Bank official Abu Bakar Siddique filed the case as the plaintiff.
Tahjib Alam Sumi was elected as an independent candidate from Jhenaidah-2 constituency (partial Sadar and Harinakundu upazila) in 2014. Later, he was elected as a member of parliament as a ‘boat’ candidate with the Awami League nomination in 2018. His father, Noor-e- Alam Siddiqui, was the central president of Chhatra League and member of parliament in 1973.
The former MP owns Doreen Power Limited, which was awarded the contract to build a power plant named 'Manikganj Power Generation Limited' in Singair upazila of Manikganj. The company is accused of disrupting the flow of the Dhaleshwari River during the construction of the power plant.
