Dhaka: Traffic movement has resumed in Mohakhali after a 7-hour shutdown with the help of the army and police. Earlier, battery-rickshaw drivers stopped traffic from 8 am and took over the road.
Traffic movement returned to normal from 3 pm on Thursday (November 21). First, the lanes from Farmgate to Uttara and Gulshan were opened with the protocol of the police and army. After that, traffic movement began in the remaining lanes.
Earlier, battery-rickshaw drivers protested by blocking roads in various places in the capital in protest of the High Court's verdict to ban battery-rickshaws. People of all classes and professions have been suffering in this situation.
It is worth noting that on November 19 (Tuesday), the High Court ordered the ban on battery-powered rickshaws in Dhaka metropolitan area within three days. At the same time, the court issued a rule asking why the authorities' inaction in stopping battery-powered rickshaws would not be illegal. Since then, battery-powered rickshaw drivers have been protesting in various areas of Dhaka.
