BNP has submitted 62 proposals to the Constitutional Reform Commission. Among them are the balance of power between the Prime Minister and the President, a caretaker government, a referendum, an upper house of parliament, and the creation of the posts of Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister. However, according to BNP, the elected government will implement the constitutional reform.
On Tuesday (November 26), BNP National Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed handed over the proposal to the head of the reform commission, Professor Ali Riaz, at the office of the Constitutional Reform Commission at the Jatiya Sangsad building.
Highlighting BNP's proposals to the Constitutional Reform Commission, Salahuddin Ahmed said, "We have submitted various proposals and amendments to 62 places in the constitution, starting from the preamble to the schedule. We hope the committee will consider them.
In the main part of the proposal, the Awami League made provisions to change the character of Bangladesh's politics through the 15th Amendment, and BNP has made some new proposals, including those made by Salahuddin Ahmed."
He said, "We have made our proposal keeping in mind the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh, the blood pledge of the martyrs of the July-August Revolution and the current reality of Bangladesh so that a parliamentary dictatorship is not created in the future."
Salahuddin Ahmed said that the BNP has proposed to bring a balance of power between the Prime Minister and the President. He said, "We have made a provision that no one can hold the post of Prime Minister for more than two consecutive terms. We have proposed a provision to create a new upper house of parliament."
Regarding the issue of the judiciary, Salahuddin Ahmed said, "The control of the subordinate courts should be under the Supreme Court." Salahuddin Ahmed said that BNP has proposed to create the posts of Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister as new posts. He said, "We have proposed a provision to reintroduce it. It was before. We have proposed a provision to reintroduce it. All the issues for which the people have high aspirations. The caretaker government is the number one aspiration of the people, it is pending in the court, hopefully it will come in favor of the people." We have proposed to reintroduce the provision of referendum.
