Munni Saha has been released on condition of illness and bail. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Detective) Rezaul Karim Mallick confirmed her release to the media on Saturday (November 30) night.
He said that she has been handed over to her family on condition of bail considering her illness and other factors.
Earlier, this female journalist was thrashed by an angry mob in the capital's Karwan Bazar that night. Later, the police rescued her and brought her to the DB office. There, she was arrested in a case filed by Jatrabari Police Station.
According to DB office sources, the police released Munni Saha into the custody of her family under Section 497 considering the overall circumstances, including the panic attack she suffered in the face of the mob's thrashing. For this, the condition of surrendering in four cases and taking bail from the court has been added.
Rezaul Karim Mallick said that there are four cases against her. She will have to surrender in those cases and take bail from the court since she is a victim of a panic attack and a female journalist. She is being released considering these issues.
He also said that Munni Saha, arrested under Section 497, has been released in the custody of her family on the condition of taking bail in view of the family's application.
The DMP detective chief said that she panicked after being attacked by an angry mob in Karwan Bazar. The police rescued her and took her to the police station. Later, she was brought to the DB office for security reasons.
However, after being taken into police custody, journalist Munni Saha was arrested in a murder case filed at Jatrabari Police Station. The matter was confirmed by Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mobarak Hossain.
It is learned that Munni Saha left the 'Ek Takar Khabar' office in Karwan Bazar in the capital to buy vegetables. When she got there, she was attacked by a mob. She was surrounded for some time. Later, Tejgaon police arrived at the scene and took her into custody. Munni Saha works as the editor of an online portal called Ek Takar Khabar.
