Dhaka: The state has filed an appeal seeking stay of the High Court's verdict declaring 'Joy Bangla' as the national slogan. The matter will be heard in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on December 8.
Additional Attorney General Barrister Anik R. Haque confirmed the matter to the media on Monday (December 2).
On March 10, 2020, the High Court in a verdict had ordered necessary steps to be taken to make 'Joy Bangla' the national slogan of Bangladesh. In view of the verdict, the government issued a notification in this regard on March 2, 2022.
The court gave this verdict after hearing a writ filed in 2017 by Supreme Court lawyer Dr. Bashir Ahmed, seeking declaration of 'Joy Bangla' as the national slogan.
