Dhaka: Helal Hafiz, the poet of love and betrayal, author of 'Now is the best time for youth to go in a procession' - Amar e Pankti, has been laid to rest in the martyred intellectual graveyard in the capital's Mirpur.
He was buried in the graveyard designated for intellectuals to the left of the main gate of the martyred intellectual graveyard at around 3 pm on Saturday (December 14).
Earlier, the first namaz-e-janaza of poet Helal Hafiz was held at Bangla Academy in the morning and the second namaz-e-janaza at the National Press Club in the afternoon.
On Friday (December 13) afternoon, the renowned poet was found unconscious on the bathroom floor of a hostel called Super Home in Paribagh. Members of another room in the hostel broke the door and rescued him from there. Later, when he was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, the doctors declared him dead.
Poet Helal Hafiz had been suffering from glaucoma for a long time. He was also suffering from kidney complications, diabetes and nerve complications. He was 76 years old.
