‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wanted to build a beautiful country. The people of Bangladesh would get a happy life, this was his aim. But he was brutally killed on August 15, 1975. The people lost their spirit of liberation and possibilities of getting happy life. We are going ahead to fulfill the dream of Bangabandhu by building a developed and prosperous life’.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this in a function on Sunday held at Tungipara arranged in connection of the 99th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujibur Rahman and national childrens day.
Sheikh Hasina said, ‘ Bangabandhu got only three and half years time. During this time he made primary education free and female education free up to secondary level. To ensure the rights of the children he introduced Bangladesh children law. Still then United Nations(UN) did not formulate any law for the protection of rights of the children. The UN did it in 1989 while Father of the Nation did it in 1974. In 2011 we made law of National Children policy. To protect the rights, education, sports, physical exercise and cultural activities of the children so that they become worthy citizen of the country.’
Women and Cultural Affairs Ministry secretary Kamrunnahar and Deputy Commissioner(DC) of Gopalganj Mokhlesur Rahman Sarkar were on the dias at that time.
Later the DC handed over the logo of the replica of Goplaganj district branding to the Prime Minister. Sheikh Hasina unveiled the cover page of the book titled’ Letter to Bangabandhu’. The best letter written to Bangabandhu was read out by Sabina Yasmin, a student of Keshabpur High School of Jashore.
Next the PM distributed sewing machines among some distressed women of the area. Later the Prime Minister enjoyed a cultural function where a video titled ‘Listen me’ was displayed. She handed over the prizes among the recipients of cultural and art competitions. She also inaugurated a book fair and painting exhibition on Bangabandhu.
Earlier the President and the Prime Minister paid tributes at the grave of the Father of the Nation. They also said fateha for the departed souls of the members of the families killed along with Bangabandhu. They paid tributes to the martyrs of 1971 seeking divine blessings.
Younger sister of Prime Minister, Sheikh Rehana, Deputy Speaker of Jatiyo Sangsad ATM Fazle Rabbi Mia, Awami League presidium members Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim MP, Tofael Ahmed MP, Amir Hossain Amu MP, Lt. Colonel(Retd) Farookh Khan MP, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaq MP, Information Minister Hassan Mahmud MP, State Minister for Religious Affairs Shaikh Md. Abdullah, Abul Hasnat Abdullah MP, Awami League organizing secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Shekh Helaluddin MP , Sheikh Salahuddin Jwel MP and a large number of party workers were present.
The PM left Tungipara for the capital at 3 P.M. by a helicopter.
