Dhaka, (Barta24): Orion Infrastructure Limited, a sister concern of Orion group has demanded Taka 1708 crores 31 lakhs along with the interest of bank loan from Dhaka South City Corporation(DSCC)as excess expenditure for constructing Mayor Hanif (Gulistan-Jatrabari) flyover.

It was learnt that on the demand of the Orion group on October 30 of last year there was an arbitration court between DSCC and Orion Infrastructure limited that produced a judgment. In the judgment it was mentioned that the excess expenditure will be borne by DSCC. DSCC will pay 1438 crores 54 lakhs to Orion Infrastructure. Two percent interest will be added with the amount.

It was learnt that DSCC will submit a report to the Ministry.

Orion Infrastructure limited recently held meetings with the secretary of the Ministry of Finance Abdur Rouf Talukdar and with the representatives of Public Private Partnership(PPP) regarding the judgment of arbitration court.

On investigation it was learnt that though Orion Infrastructure limited took several facilities from the government there is no investment of their own in the Mayor Hanif flyover construction. Practically the flyover was built by the money of the government owned banks. Even they took tax rebate on the income from flyover and managed to purchase duty free luxurious cars.

The DSCC authority said that as the matter was settled in the arbitration court so they do not want to do anything of its own. City Corporation wants to bring the matter of Orion’s claim to the notice of highest authority of the government.

For this purpose DSCC is taking preparation to send reports to the concerned Ministry and to the highest authority of the government.

Speaking on the matter the CEO of DSCC Md. Mostafizur Rahman told Barta 24.com that ‘we cannot take a decision on it. For it, after informing the higher authorities a report will be sent in the last week of March. The matter will be settled as per directions of the higher authorities.’
