State Minister for Public Administration Forhad Hossain informed that government has taken policy decision not to increase the entry age in the government service.

He said, that the law and order situation is now good and the youths are getting post graduation degree at the age of 22-23 years so they are getting at least six to seven years time to get into government jobs. Seven year entry time is enough.

On Thursday evening (April 25) in the on going session of Jatiyo Sangsad (JS) Independent MP Rezaul Karim Babul put up this question in written form.

In reply to that State Minister Forhad Hossain told that there is a policy decision for the entry time of government service. That policy decision is still in force. The decision in force is that in the post liberation period the entry age was 25 years, next it was done 27. At last it has been enhanced to 30 years. In the B.C.S. examination for the general students the entry is 30 years while for the wards of freedom fighters it is 32 years.

At that time in various considerations the age limit was increased. At that time there was continuous session jam in the universities. According to the proposal placed in the JS if any one enters at the age of 23 while the latest one enters at the age of 35 then there will be difference of age between the two. Due to age difference there may be psychological problem between the two groups in the work field.

At present the retirement age is 59 years. There is provision in the pension policy that one will get pension if he or she completes 25 years service. If the age is enhanced to 35 years then after attaining 59 years he or she will do job for only 22 years which will be not fit for getting full pension.

Earlier Independent member Rezaul Karim Babul put up the written proposal in the JS to enhance the age limit to 35 years which was supported by 10 treasury and opposition members.

Babul said that in 155 countries out of 199, the age limit is 35-59 years. In USA, Canada, UK, Iraq, Iran and in many other countries the limit in force is 35-59 years.

Rezaul Karim Babul MP told that in our country there are more than 28 lakhs of educated unemployed youths. After doing their education they have now become liabilities for their families and it is how much painful only the sufferers know. We don’t want to increase that liabilities further so the age limit is enhanced to 35-59 years, Babul proposed.

As the proposing member did not return back the proposal at the request of the State Minister it was rejected by voice vote when the Deputy Speaker placed it in the JS to decide its fate.
