Mother fishes release eggs in Halda

Chattogram: Mother fishes have released eggs in the only natural fish breeding water body in Asia, the Halda river. The egg collectors have started collecting the eggs from Sunday(May25) night. The fishermen noticed the releasing of eggs n the morning.

Egg collector Zahur Lal told Barta24.com that I got five buckets full of eggs in the night after using net. Ratan of Madrasha ghat of Halda told Barta.com that I got four buckets of eggs.

Confirming the release of eggs by mother fishes UNO Ruhul Amin told Barta24.com that the fishermen are getting eggs in the night. However the quantity is not enough now they will get more in quantity in the deep night.

On Friday night when heavy thunder shower began the fisher men started taking preparation to collect eggs.

Generally in the month of Chaitra and Baishakh during heavy rain fall the mother fishes release eggs. As the rain fall was less this year the egg release was not of that expectation during mid Baishakh. Mother fishes generally release eggs in the night of new moon, Ashtami and full moon.        

 The concerned said that due to vigilance to protect the eggs,  cleaning the well for preserving the eggs, uninterrupted supply of electricity in the wells would help the highest collection of eggs this year and also may exceed the past records.

Researcher of fisheries and professor of Zoology of Chattogram University Dr. Manjurul Kibria told Barta24.com,’I am in Halda now in the night. The quantity of eggs is still not sufficient. However, I hope that in the deep night the collection will increase.

On the other hand, in 108 concrete and 10 plastic wells of Machua Jharna, Shah Madari and Moduna ghat arrangement of preservation of eggs of Halda have been made.

The administration took maximum preparation from much ago in  extending all out helps for collecting eggs in Halda.

In 2018 about 22680 kilograms, in 2017, 1680 kg in 2016, 735 kg sample, in 2015, 2800 kg, in 2014, 16500 kg eggs were collected. The administration expects more eggs this year.
