India is to continue its support to BIMSTEC

Indian foreign minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has made the commitment that India would always lend its support to Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multisectoral Economic Cooperation(BIMSTEC).

When the secretary general of BIMSTEC M. Shahidul Islam met Indian foreign minister in New Delhi on Tuesday (July 23), Dr. Jaishankar made this commitment.

On Wednesday(July  24) this was informed in a press release issued from the BIMSTEC secretariat, Dhaka.  

Reiterating the strong commitment of India to BIMSTEC Dr. S. Jaishankar said that India always support the development and is in favor of making this regional initiative of the member states more stronger.  

Mentioning the on going institutional reforms of the organization Jaishankar hoped that through the programs taken up so far BIMSTEC would deliver more positive results in future.

He said that the BIMSTEC consisting of the neighbors particularly the Eastern neighbors would get priority to India.

Welcoming the attempts of BIMSTEC members in taking the initiative considering the cultural and historical relations Jaishankar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a strong supporter of the collective development of all states of Bay of Bengal region.
