Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained Jubo League president of Dhaka South unit Ismail Hossain alias Samrat, alleged kingpin of illegal operation of casinos in the capital.
One of Samrat’s associates Arman was also arrested in a RAB operation in Chauddagram of Cumilla early Sunday.
RAB media wing Director Sarwar Bin Kashem told Barta24.com that the two were arrested around 5:00am.
According to RAB officials, they conducted the raid on information that Samrat and his associates were trying to leave the country through Chauddagram.
There are allegations that Samrat amassed crores of taka through the operation of casinos in the capital’s Motijheel area. RAB and police sources said everyone arrested over casino operation said that Samrat was behind the illegal business.
Samrat went into hiding after law enforcers launched raids on casinos. Several Jubo League leaders, including Dhaka South Jubo League organizing Secretary Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan, were arrested in the raid.
