One percent of the capital city’s voter's fingerprint in the server is illegible. Therefore, in the electronic voting machines (EVM), 1 percent of the voting power will be with the Assistant Presiding Officers.
An EVM exhibition was arranged at Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon in connection with the upcoming election of the North and South City elections in Dhaka on Monday (Jan. 6) at 3:30 pm. AHM Abdur Rahim Khan, IT systems consultant for the EVM project, said.
To vote in an EVM, the voter's fingerprint must match. Otherwise, the control unit of the device does not open. For many reasons, many voters' fingerprints are erased. Therefore, for those who do not get fingerprints, the Assistant Presiding Officer is given the power to open a certain number of voting control units.
Abdur Rahim Khan said that in the two city elections in Dhaka, 1 percent of the vote will be in the hands of the assistant presiding officers. The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) will be able to raise this rate if required on the day of the vote. In this case a code will be sent by the Returning Officer to the Assistant Presiding Officers of the respective polling station.
Asked if there is no fingerprint in the ballot unit, whether it can be rigged, when asked. But if there is someone pushing a pistol and say give you finger, then there will be nothing to do. This is actually an issue of law and order.
In response to other questions of the journalists, EVM project director Colonel Md. Kamal Uddin said, EVMs have a control unit, ballot unit and a monitor. The programming of this device is done long ago and no one knows where an EVM will go to the center. So there is no opportunity to change the programming for a particular polling station in advance. It is made in Bangladesh. Its longevity is 10 years. And for each machine it costs Taka 2 lakh 6 thousand.
At the EVM exhibition, there are provisions to show it to all agents of the candidates before the EVM is launched. EVM machine software is installed once. This software cannot be manipulated. In addition, the result of the election will be stored on the specified card. After the vote, the result of that card will be seen.
