BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has strongly protested and condemned the ban on rallies in Dhaka without the government's prior permission. He demanded immediate reversal of this anti-people decision which is against the constitution and fundamental rights.

In a statement sent to the media on Wednesday (December 2), the BNP secretary general said the government's decision was against the constitutional and fundamental rights of the people and was a bad signal for democracy and politics.

The BNP secretary general said that any citizen and organization has the right to assemble freely in the constitution. But it is unfortunate but true that since the present government came to power, this right of the people recognized by the constitution has been taken away or restricted or controlled at different times, which is a violation of the constitution.

He said the government had again violated the constitution by suddenly banning gatherings of political parties, religious and social organizations subject to prior permission from the DMP. However, the ruling party or their supporting organizations are holding rallies by occupying roads or localities without any prior permission or condition.

In a statement, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the government was controlling politics in the name of permission, depriving the people of their rights. The normal path of politics is being blocked and narrowed. By abusing the administration, the government is depriving the people of the basic rights recognized by the constitution to protect themselves from public anger and mass agitation.
