'We cannot forget 1971. In 1971, we were born as an independent country. I was able to recognize myself in 1971. After 9 months of war, we were able to create a territory for ourselves. With this spirit, we have to unite and work towards building a democratic country by stopping all conspiracies.'

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this as the chief guest at a public meeting on building an equal, harmonious and humane Bangladesh at the Sakoa High School ground in Boda Upazila of Panchagarh on Sunday (December 22) afternoon.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam said, we want to thank the students. They have given us the opportunity to build a country democratically again by pouring their blood. For that, we have to go towards elections. But many people are unhappy when we talk about elections. I want to tell them yes, we want elections because we want a democratic government to come to power those who will go to parliament and work for us. For this, we have to unite and work towards building a democratic country by stopping all conspiracies.

Stating that Sheikh Hasina is conspiring in India, he said, Hasina is conspiring and plotting by fleeing to the other side. Hasina is spreading false propaganda. Hindus are being oppressed in this country. We are the people of this region who love peace. Here, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians all live together. Our people guard the temple here during the puja. They are trying to put us in danger by spreading false propaganda. We have to stand against them.

'Those who loot must be removed. Arrangements must be made so that no one touches our country unjustly. No one has ever done the atrocities that the Awami League did to us. They have hanged scholars and ulamas. They have arrested our politicians and put them in jail. We have to be careful so that no one can do injustice like this again,' said Fakhrul.

Calling on everyone to stand against bribery, the BNP leader said, "They are asking for bribes wherever they go. We will not give bribes anymore. You all will stand against it. We will catch those who ask for bribes and hand them over to the police. The police also take bribes. But we are changing this police. This police will now be the people's police. We want such a Bangladesh." The meeting, organized by Boda and Debiganj Upazila BNP and its affiliated organizations, was attended by BNP's Rangpur Divisional Organizing Secretary Asadul Habib Dulu, Co-Organizing Secretary Aminul Islam, Abdul Khalek, BNP Chairman Parson's Advisory Council Member Baby Nazneen, BNP leader Ishraq Hossain, Panchagarh District BNP Convener Jahirul Islam Kachchu, Central BNP Rural Development Affairs Secretary and District Member Secretary Farhad Hossain Azad, International Affairs Secretary Barrister Nausad Zamir and other party leaders and activists.

Later, the BNP Secretary General handed over financial assistance to the relatives of the six families killed in the August Revolution.
