'One highway has changed the life of millions'
From Bhanga (Faridpur) crossing: The 55-kilometer Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway, the first international standard highway, has changed the overall lifestyle, including economic emancipation.
On Tuesday (September 1) at noon, a picture was seen around the picturesque Bhanga crossing area of Faridpur.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the expressway a few months before the end of the construction period at a cost of Taka11390 crores. And after the inauguration, the door of emancipation of millions of people of 22 districts of South Bengal has been opened. They are directly benefiting.
It is known that it was approved by ECNEC in 2016.
The project is being implemented by the Bangladesh Army and the Roads and Highways Department of the Road Transport and Highways Department. The expressway has two service lanes, five flyovers, 19 underpasses, two interchanges, four railway overbridges, four major bridges, 25 minor bridges and 54 culverts.
The 6-lane highway has been built keeping in mind the need to increase traffic for the next 20 years. The highway will be part of the Asian Highway, connecting Dhaka and Kolkata through the Benapole border.
Locals in Bhanga Gol Chattar told Barta24.com, "Even a few years ago, our area was neglected due to geographical location. But with the implementation of the dream Padma Bridge project, the importance of this region has increased. This connecting highway on both sides of the bridge has changed the quality of our overall lifestyle today. Today we have created employment. We will benefit more if the Padma bridge is opened. '
