Grass root women are the main architect of country’s women empowerment: Speaker
Speaker of Jatiyo Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said, not only the women who are in important positions, but also the grassroots women are the main artisans of women's empowerment in this country. Because the women of the marginal areas are the ones who have to deal with storms, floods, river erosion and other natural calamities. They never give up.
She was speaking as the special guest on the 3rd day of the 16-day '50th Anniversary of Victory: Red-Green Festival' organized by the FBCCI on Friday (December 3).
The event was held at the Hatirjheel Amphitheater in the capital on Friday with the participation of women.
Shirin Sharmin said that women were at the forefront of various important national movements including the mother language movement and independence movement. In the war of liberation, women fought with arms. Those who did not fight directly also cooperated with the freedom fighters in various ways.
FBCCI President Md Jasimuddin in a welcome speech said, ‘Half of the population of the country is women. Women are successfully fulfilling their responsibilities in various important positions in different ministries. Women make up half of the workforce in the industrial sector, including readymade garments. In addition, rural women entrepreneurs have kept the country's grassroots economy afloat. Therefore, the active participation of women is essential for the successful implementation of the future economic plans of Bangladesh’.
He said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of all time, has laid the foundation for the social and economic status of women in today's Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of Bangabandhu, has ensured the financial and social empowerment of women in its continuation. Her various initiatives have increased the participation of women in the Jatiyo Sangsad.
The FBCCI president said the FBCCI has 21 women's chambers and associations across the country. The FBCCI has always been supportive to women entrepreneurs.
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam in his speech said Bangabandhu has given place to women in the constitution committee as a process for women's empowerment in Bangladesh. She has also introduced reserved women's seats in JS to increase women's participation in politics.
State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Farooq addressed as special guest. He said the Prime Minister believed that development of the country could be ensured if equal rights for men and women were ensured. Achieving gender equality is the main reason behind today's success in Bangladesh, claimed State Minister Zahid Farooq.
Speaking as the guest of honor on the occasion, Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin MP, former president of FBCCI, said that during the short tenure of Bangabandhu, Bangladesh was slowly moving towards development. But after his brutal assassination, the country was plunged into black darkness again. Overcoming hundreds of conspiracies, Bangladesh has overtaken India and Pakistan in many socio-economic indicators under the strong leadership of the Prime Minister during the rule of Awami League. Bangladesh has achieved satisfactory growth even in the adverse conditions of Covid.
After the brief speeches of the guests, a pleasant cultural program was held with songs and dances.
Nazrul Festival will be held on Saturday evening, the fourth day of the 16-day '50 Years of Victory: Red-Green Festival '. Minister for Social Welfare Nuruzzaman Ahmed will be present as the chief guest.
