Ghorashal-Palash Urea Fertilizer factory, South Asia's largest urea fertilizer producer, is now awaiting inauguration after completion of construction work. Authorities are looking at the possibility of coming into production soon. The final stage of examination is going on through a high-level delegation.

Considering the abnormal increase in gas consumption, downtime and maintenance frequency per tonne of urea production in the two fertilizers plants and as the plants are very old, on 24 August 2014 Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed the Ministry of Industries to construct a new, modern technology and energy efficient fertilizer plant at the site.

As a result of this, South Asia's largest fertilizer plant has been constructed at Palash in Narsingdi to meet the demand of urea fertilizer in the country. From which the daily production will be about 2800 metric tons of urea fertilizer. It will be a state-of-the-art, energy efficient and environment friendly factory. This factory at a cost of Tk. 10,460 crore was approved by ECNEC on October 9, 2018. The factory was scheduled to be completed in 2022 and the construction cost has been increased by Tk. 15,000 crore and the duration has also been extended by one year.

As a result, the factory is scheduled to be inaugurated in December this year. The only eco-friendly factory in the country is expected to increase the production of urea fertilizer by ten percent by using the polluting carbon dioxide gas. China National Chemical Engineering Construction Corporation (CNCEC), which is number one in the world market in the petrochemical industry in 2020, is constructing the factory. The vice president of the company, Hu Qiangong, recently visited the construction site of the factory.

During the visit, he said, the success of the construction of this project by China Seventh Chemical Engineering Company (CC Seven) not only marks a new phase in Bangladesh's chemical industry system. It will become a fully modernized, entire industrial chain, eco-friendly, largest refinery plant project in South Asia. I believe that this project will greatly help in the development of agriculture by meeting the demand of domestic fertilizers. It will contribute greatly to the development of the industrial system of Bangladesh. It is a fruitful result of Chinese President Xi Jinping's "Belt and Road" initiative which will play a role in the development of Bangladesh and the people of this country. He said that if Bangladesh is interested, this company named CC Seven of China wants to do more work.

Rajiur Rahman Mallick, project director of Ghorashal-Palash Urea Factory, said that the country's only environmental friendly factory is already waiting for the inauguration after all the works are completed.

Expressing his satisfaction with the work of CC Seven, the company that built the factory, he also said that the company has done very good quality work. They will be considered as a modern quality establishment by using good quality materials.

The authorities believe that if the project is implemented, it will be possible to meet the growing demand of urea fertilizer, ensure the food security of the country by ensuring the supply of urea fertilizer to the farmers at affordable prices, save hard-earned foreign currency by reducing the import of urea fertilizer and create new jobs in the country
