The brave freedom fighter Abdul Jalil who hoisted the first flag of Bangladesh in Kushtia passed away (inna lillahi ... Rajiun).

He breathed his last at his residence in Kuthipara area of Kushtia town on Monday (June 17) at 4:30 am.

On March 3, 1971, he hoisted the flag of Independent Bangladesh at the Kushtia Islamia College ground. Abdul Jalil was the convener of undivided Kushtia Swadhin Bangla Chhatra Sangam Parishad and the President of District Chhatra League. He had many memories with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He was 82 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by numerous relatives and well-wishers including 2 daughters and 1 son.

People from various walks of life including freedom fighters, social and voluntary organizations and professional organizations have expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family and wished the soul of this great man peace.

One of the organizers in the great liberation war, the first flag hooster of independent Bangladesh, Advocate Abdul Jalil was buried with state honors.

On Monday (June 17) at 5:30 in the afternoon, members of the law enforcement forces paid their last respects to this brave warrior in the presence of Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Partha Pratim Sheel at the Eidgah ground adjacent to the Model Mosque in Kuthipara of the town.

At this time, the general secretary of the district Awami League Azgar Ali, organizational secretary, doctor, leader Aminul Haque Ratan, Chamber Leader BRB Group Chairman Mujibur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Chairman Ataur Rahman Ata, District JSD President Haji Mohsin and other leaders were present.

At that time, the burial was completed in the Kushtia Pourshava graveyard after the funeral with the participation of the brave freedom fighters and the leaders of various political, social and cultural organizations, local residents and relatives of the city.

Abdul Jalil, the brave freedom fighter who hoisted the first flag of independent Bangladesh in Kushtia town had told Barta24.com on the occasion of Kushtia Freedom Day on December 11 last year, "The graves of the brave freedom fighters who were martyred in the long nine-month liberation struggle with the invading forces have been laid in Kumarkhali, Banshitala, Bittipara districts." There are about half a hundred mass graves. Thousands of people have been massacred indiscriminately in these places.'

However, 'those who dream of sacrificing millions of lives to liberate the country by responding to the call of the great leader of the liberation war, Bangabandhu, are still far from fulfilling that dream.'
