On the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja, Hilsa is going to India like other years.

On Wednesday (September 25) afternoon, the first shipment of 8 metric tons of hilsa arrived at Benapole port for export. However, it did not enter India till 11 pm without completing the formalities of the papers.

It may enter India on Thursday (September 26), according to exporting companies and fisheries officials.

This time, 49 companies in the country have received permission to export hilsa. Hilsa export must be completed before October 13, the ministry said. 10 US dollars per kg which is being exported at the price of Tk. 1180 in Bangladeshi taka.

According to customs sources, Sajjad Enterprises, the Bangladeshi exporter of hilsa, and RJ International, the importer of India, are doing this trade. Bangladesh Logistics has a C & F agent for hilsa clearance from the port.

It is known that the Fish Importers Association (FIA), an organization of Indian fish importers in Kolkata, requested Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain on September 9 to consider the approval of Hilsa export from Bangladesh on the occasion of Durga Puja. Later, the government allowed the export of 3,000 tonnes to India under special consideration.

It started exporting from Wednesday. Ordinary traders said that hilsa export will play a big role in increasing good relations between the two countries.

Benapole Port Fish Officer Aswadul Islam said that the exporting company could not show all the documents required for fish export. In particular, the permission of the Department of Fisheries has not yet been received. Currently, the hilsa truck is standing at the port. Export will be permitted if the documents are valid.

According to port officials, the export of hilsa was stopped in 2012, but it started again later. However, in special consideration, there is an opportunity to export only during Durga Puja. Last year, the export permission was 3 thousand 900 metric tons. This year the permission is 3 thousand tons.

Sajib Nazir, Deputy Director of Benapole Port, said that after the completion of the paperwork, cooperation will be provided so that the hilsa trucks can enter India quickly.
